The reasons why we fly the Survivors’ Flag

The Survivors’ Flag was created to honour Residential School Survivors, their families, and communities. It serves as a visible symbol of remembrance, resilience, truth, and the ongoing journey toward reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. National Day for Truth and Reconciliation provides an opportunity for schools to acknowledge the harmful legacy of the residential school system, recognize the experiences of Survivors, and demonstrate a commitment to learning, healing, and reconciliation.
